With International Day of Charity having been this week, we wanted to highlight our ongoing charity partnership with the Rugby World Cup winning Springbok prop, Tendai Mtawarira and his charity, The Beast Foundation.
Through The Beast Foundation, Tendai wants to forge a future for the youth of South Africa – developing their skills and educating them through sport.
Their mission and slogan is to Inspire, Unite and Build.
Inspire: Inspire young people to realize their potential and take their place as future leaders
Unite: Use sport to bring people together to address social and educational issues
Build: Build relationships and communities through sport and education
On the recent Wales Tour to South Africa, we set aside charity ‘pink’ days to raise money for our charity partners.
In total, our amazing supporters raised over ZAR25,000 for The Beast Foundation thanks to generous signing of Bristol and Irish Lions tour memorabilia by 2009 Man of the Series, Jamie Roberts. MSG also donated a travel package for our 2023 Italy v Wales Six Nations tour to Rome, won by Tonmawr RFC to the delight of the player’s teammates.
‘’Your continued support for our programmes is very much appreciated by our Foundation’’, commented Tendai himself.
MSG’s Managing Director, Mark Gardner was delighted at the generosity of the tourists. ‘’To see everyone in our charity pink shirts and digging deep for one of rugby’s heroes is truly humbling. The Beast’s work gives so many disadvantaged children new opportunities, leaving us proud of the association with the Foundation’’
